Thanksgiving 2 Sense
Hello folks! There will be a post on MFF coming soon.

But for right now, I'd like to announce that the 2 Sense Show will be a day late this week because it will be a Thanksgiving show! I believe that it's important to memorialize this tragic day in which so many birds have given their lives for our country. You were good birds. We will not forget you.

So keep an eye here tomorrow and there will be some show!

Also, there is a decision that I've been trying to make, and I'd like your help with it.

My distributor, Rabbit Valley, heard about our troubles with converting the Election video and they offered to put it onto a DVD for me, and this gave me an idea...

We're planning on upgrading the 2 Sense Show for next season. And it will be a significant upgrade. It's something that we will need money for. I was thinking that we could sell a special edition DVD of the 2008 election coverage and use the money we get from that to upgrade the show. After all, it's probably the most important election of our time. And it is the only video episode of the 2 Sense Show. That's kind of special, right?

The problem is, the show was so long that the DVD will have to come on three or four disks. And the price we'd have to sell it at might be a bit steep. And, let's face it, the video quality wasn't that good.

So, what do you guys think? Is it something you'd be interested in? Do you think you'd buy something like that? Would it be a good way to raise money? Let me know your thoughts.

Are you partaking in bird-eating this Thanksgiving?

Uh... Three or four disks for that video quality..? But meh, I'd probably buy one, if the price stays reasonable.

If you can make it so the disks are created as they're ordered (no overstock not selling, no big production fee up front), I don't think trying to sell them would hurt, and is worth a shot.
You could also set up a chip-in ( http://www.chipin.com/ ) where people, if they want, can donate a little bit here and there for a specific purpose and deadline. There's a lot of generous people out there that might want to help, but can't shell out for a multi-disk dvd.

I suppose you sometimes must pay for your crack. I'd definately buy it, especially since I only saw the first hour or so.

That's quite a quandary. As much as I want the election show, I don't see myself purchasing it given the video quality.

But then again, when and if you make it a DVD, I would forget what I said here and get it anyway.

Other options:

Save as MPEG - Would allow whole show to fit on one DVD, however would be lower quality (which depending on the original recording equipment could be a significant hit), and wouldn't work in all DVD players.

Edit it down - Might not be the greatest option but offering this as an alternative to the full version might help more people buy the thing, which would make raising the money easier.

Yeah they're not great but they're something.

Do you have a price quote per dvd yet?

What if you cut it into chunks, lets say 2-2 1/2 hour chunks at a time, and sell them individually? That way if people want the whole thing they can buy like a box set, but if they only want to see part of the show, then they only have to order what they want, or people can slwoly order the entire show as budgeting allows.

I dunno...there wouldn't be much to buying only a chunk. It's one thing if all the chunks were individual stand-alones, but I don't want to watch just a portion of a whole lot of entertainment :P I want it all. I'm greedy like that ^.^

You could also just burn the FLV to disk and an appropriate media player with it, for a number of systems. It would save you having to faff around with putting it on multiple disks. Retaining original quality where possible is best, transcoding is a fairly bad idea especially based on the source quality. :(

One one DVD, which it would easily fit on without transcoding, I'd buy it! Hell, I imagine the bitrate it might even fit on a CD. Who knows? What bitrate was it at anyway? I wasn't paying attention, on account of watching the light reflect off your head in a way that was dazzling! :D

Given the quality of the video, coupled with the typical capabilities of a DVD to hold material, I find it hard to believe that it would take more than two discs for the whole program.

I'd probably buy it, depending on price and number of CDs. Oh, and can't forget overseas shipping... I once tried to buy a mug and they wanted to charge me $40 postage.

Honestly, I dig the hell out of your stuff, but I really don't know if I'd buy the Election Coverage DVD. I'm on the fence about it. I watched the whole thing live as it was happening so I had my fill, and it WAS pretty crappy quality, so... I don't know. The crappy quality does it in for me. But that's just my opinion. I'm sure there are lots of people out there who would be more than willing to purchase it!

Here's my deal. Even if I don't want to buy the DVD, I'm still more than willing to help you guys out for the show and your future endeavors. This brings me to my question: do you still take donations, 2? I can't find a link to it on your site. Although it may be another few weeks before I donate anything, it depends how much I make over the Christmas holidays. :>

I would not pay for the DVD ... However if you're up for suggestions, it might be a good idea to edit the footage into "highlights" so that you have a much better quantity/quality ratio and it will be cheaper/easier to fit on a disc.

I think that's a better idea. 3 or 4 DVDs for a video segment that low in quality seems like overkill. o_0

Oh, please. It is 2 and Jibba on DVD. And, given the way the night turned out, I suspect there was much celebrating as the night went on. Celebrating equals drinking for you two. Although, if the price gets too steep, sales will suffer. I would be more likely to purchase it if it was the entire show rather than highlights. If you are doing an on-demand kind of thing, how about a full length DVD set and a highlights DVD?

Given the video quality, it should be possible to squeeze it onto a single disc easily. Smaller bitrate, audio quality, etc. If the price wasn't -too- steep (like, $50), might consider buying.

What the hell do you think? You could shit in a bag and there would be a bidding rally.

I saw around half of it, I'd say what I saw is worth buying.

bawk bawk ba-urk! *om nom nom*

mmm, tryptophan

I am interested in seeing the bits I missed, and I think I would be willing to lay out some cash for a copy, especially if you have them with you at AC this year(or if you go to Califur and set up a table to sell stuff and have them there), but I can't say Id definently buy one without knowing how much it'll cost.

call that a maybe?

I'd say a reasonable price, considering the video quality and the length of it, would probably be no great than 25-30 dollars for it, unless somehow you could upgrade the video to make it a little more crisp, for larger televisions.

On the other hand, I'd gladly pay 5-10 bucks for access to download the show from your site or something, which is another way of helping you pay for theengs.

You friggers are forgetting the most important freakin' purpose of the whole DVD. :P It's like a fund raiser, except you get something awesome in return, aside from a better, STILL FREE internet radio show.

The money isn't for the DVD and the election coverage of the two goofballs, it's to pay for the next season of 2sense, duh.

Personally, I'd kinda like to know what this significant upgrade is, to need a fund raiser.. It would definitely make or break my decision on whether or not to buy into it. ~.=.o

P.S.: 2@ranting-gryphon.com is his paypal. I've, uh.. Paid him for .. Certain transactions of confidential kinds. >.=.>
